Survey of VCSE use of resources

The Office for Civil Society and the Big Lottery Fund are running a joint survey looking at how the Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise sector is currently using online resources, the types of advice, information and networking tools they find most useful and what would help them in the future.

It will help them build on the findings of the Supporting Civil Society consultation (Oct 2010-Jan 2011) and obtain a more detailed picture of what is needed.

North Face creates fund for outdoor youth organisations

Outdoor clothing specialists The North Face have launched The North Face Explore Fund™, an annual pan-European grantmaking initiative to support non-profit community organisations whose goals are to encourage youth participation outdoors.

The fund aims to inspire and enable the next generation of explorers by supporting organisations and initiatives that work to connect young people with nature, and provide education for individual and environmental health.

Organisations can apply online for up to €2,500 (approx £2,170) of financial support.

Key Changes to the Big Lottery Fund’s Reaching Communities Buildings Fund

The Big Lottery has made several changes to the eligibility of its Reaching Communities Buildings Fund.

The Reaching Communities scheme provides funding for projects that improve or replace existing buildings where a wide range of community activities take place and it funds those that are most in need. The scheme will only support buildings or sites based in the most deprived ‘Lower Super Output Areas’ (LSOAs) in England.

Bright One invites applications for pro bono PR and marketing support

Volunteer-run communications agency Bright One is rolling out its Bright Works microvolunteering platform and is inviting applications from charities wishing to feature their opportunities on it.

Until now the agency was working just with its clients to ensure the platform worked well for charities and volunteers. Now it is opening up the service to any interested organisations, and is inviting them to submit a project.

Credit unions now open to wider membership including community groups, charities and social enterprises

The Credit Unions Act has changed to allow credit unions to provide services to new groups and to develop new services and partnerships.

Previously everyone eligible to join a credit union had to have something in common but this requirement has now been removed, leaving credit unions free to extend their operations by offering financial services to organisations such as housing providers, social enterprises and businesses, community groups and charities.

Home Office funding for male victims of domestic and/or sexual violence

The Home Office is offering grants of £2,000 to £10,000 to support work focusing on male victims of domestic and sexual violence.

The government is making available £225,000 of funding over two years available to organisations to support services focussing on male victims of domestic and sexual violence. The government recognises that men can be victims of these crimes, and takes this issue very seriously.
