Enterprising Communities grants: Try-it and Do it awards

Do you have an enterprising idea? You might be able to get some funding to test it out.

If you have an idea for an enterprise that will benefit people in your community or you’ve just started a new social enterprise we may be able to help. GMCVO is looking to support potential social entrepreneurs in Greater Manchester to explore and test their ideas. Through UnLtd, a national Social Enterprise support organisation, GMCVO are offering a package of start-up funding and advice to enable people with enterprising ideas to make a positive social impact in local communities.

Applications for 2016 Social Mobility Foundation Programmes Now Open

The Social Mobility Foundation supports ambitious young people from less-privileged backgrounds to access top universities and careers. They run completely free of charge programmes featuring mentoring, internships with top companies, university application support, as well as professional development and skills workshops for high achieving Year 12s across the UK. The charity provides support in 11 professional sectors, including Law, Medicine and Politics. Support continues throughout university to help young people obtain graduate jobs.

Women 4 Peace Leadership Project

A leadership programme for women that aims to:
• Develop skills in resolving conflict
• Support Individuals to communicate effectively
• Facilitate community dialogue

Plunkett Foundation - Our Urban Shop Grant

Our Urban Shop is a pilot project that aims to help urban communities in the UK overcome the issues of buying good food locally. The Plunkett Foundation has partnered with Locality and received funding from the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation to help urban communities access the support and resources available for rural communities to set up community-owned shops.

This pilot programme is offering grants to community groups and organisations to develop a community-owned shop in an urban community of the UK that meets the needs of their community.

Torch Trophy Trust bursaries

Torch Trophy Trust bursaries of between £100 and £1,000 are available to help volunteers wishing to undertake training to enhance their knowledge or improve their coaching skills to assist their club, organisation or community and develop their chosen sport.

Applications can be made if you are:
• A voluntary provider
• Seeking to improve a skill that will benefit the local community or group to which you are affiliated
• Your governing body wishes to assist but cannot provide adequate funding for your chosen activity

Esh Communities 2016

Esh Group, supported by the Esh Charitable Trust, is offering grants of up to £1,000 for community projects in its operational areas across the North East, Yorkshire and Humber, the North West and Scotland.

Esh Communities is launching for the fourth consecutive year in October 2015 and since its launch has awarded 93 organisations with over £90,000.00. On average, each successful applicant received an average of £960.86.

First Steps Enterprise Fund

First Steps Enterprise Fund is a £300,000 pilot fund offering loan-grant packages to charities and social enterprises working in communities in England. From 19 October 2015, small community-led organisations can apply for up to £30,000 from to help them grow their services and become more sustainable. The investments are the first steps towards accessing the wider social investment market and more financing options.

British Science Week Community Grants for Science Activity

British Science Week (BSW) is coordinated by the British Science Association (BSA) and funded by the Department for Business Innovation and Skills (BIS).

BIS aims to stimulate and support scientists, engineers, science communicators and the general public to produce the largest range of self-sustaining events across the UK, in order to engage as many people as possible with science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM).

Parasol - Research Initiative on domestic violence, labour exploitation and the impact of criminal or exploitative networks

Parasol is a new research initiative that is investigating the challenges facing young European nationals in Greater Manchester who are aged 13 -25 years and are at risk of serious exploitation, discrimination or abuse.

There are 3 main areas for the research:
1. Domestic Abuse and Violence
2. Labour Exploitation and Discrimination (including Gang-Masters)
3. Impact of Criminal and other exploitative networks - including trafficking and modern slavery, drugs and sex trades
