Adult Learners’ Week 2012 Get Involved

22 Mar 2012 - 10:19 by michelle.foster

What is Adult Learners’ Week?
Adult Learners’ Week is the UK’s largest annual festival of learning; inspiring thousands of people each year to discover how learning can change their lives. Adult Learners' Week has been promoting and supporting adult informal learning in the UK for over 20 years.

Informal Adult Learning includes a massive spectrum from arts and crafts and wider cultural learning, to personal development, active citizenship and the growing agenda of environmental issues.

During this week-long festival, learning events take place in workplaces, libraries, cafes, prisons, museums and colleges across the country, motivating adults of all ages and backgrounds to take up new learning opportunities.

This year, Adult Learners' Week will run from Saturday 12 – Friday 18 May.

Get Involved in Adult Learners’ Week in Manchester
For the last three years, the Learning, Skills and Employment Network (LSEN) has organised a wide range of learning and celebration events during the Adult Learners’ Week, as well as promoting a variety of informal learning activities in the lead up to the week.

This year, they will be holding cultural diversity events to launch Adult Learners' Week, a wide range of learning events and activities during the week itself, and an Awards Ceremony where certificates will be presented to individuals and organisations which were nominated for Adult Learner Awards but were not shortlisted.

LSEN are looking to engage any organisation or group in Manchester (and its surrounding boroughs) which sees itself as a provider of any form of adult learning to help them make this year’s festival a real success. You may wish to run an event or join LSEN’s Adult Learners’ Week (ALW) Steering Group.

There are many benefits to holding an event during Adult Learners' Week. For full details, visit the LSEN website: www.lsen.org.uk/topics/adult-learners-week/.

For support with running your event or for any other queries, contact Estelle Worthington, LSEN Temporary Information and Communications Officer, on 0161 277 5402, or email: estelle@lsen.org.uk on Mondays only, or contact Walt Crowson, LSEN Coordinator, on 0753 496 5605, or email: walt.crowson@lsen.org.uk.
