From Crisis Care to Despair - Lives in jeopardy over poor crisis treatment for the mentally ill

4 Jul 2016 - 14:44 by michelle.foster

A recent Care Quality Commission (CQC) national research report has shown that 86% of adults surveyed felt dissatisfied with their treatment in crisis care.

Manchester Mental Health Charter Alliance has been commissioned by NHS North, Central and South Manchester Clinical Commissioning Groups to engage with service users and carers who have experienced crisis.

Manchester Mental Health Charter Alliance asks for a decent standard of care, and we would like to hear views of service users and carers describing the crisis care they have received.

Two surveys have been designed by mental health service users with lived experience – one for service users and one for carers to complete and will launch on the 11 July until 31 August 2016. The findings will be presented to the commissioners, who will take action to improve the services based on service user and carer feedback.

The Charter Alliance is determined that the voices of Manchester mental health service users and carers will be HEARD in unity so that the mental health service providers and those that fund these services will listen.

It is our aim that this engagement will not be as other engagements where service users never get to see the final results. The Charter Alliance is planning to share the findings as widely as possible (this isn’t just another box ticking exercise).

Manchester Mental Health Charter Alliance was created three years ago and developed a mental health charter for the city. Click here to view the charter. It has been drawn up from what people who use mental health services have said in consultations over the last few years.
