14 Dec 2018 - 11:09 by michelle.foster

Breakthrough UK’s Democracy Disability Devolution – women's project is a (non-partisan) local project to raise awareness of barriers to disabled women’s political involvement and representation and solutions to remove these barriers. Breakthrough UK aim to bring people together to challenge stereotypes and support people to register to vote, stand for office etc. Democracy Disability and Devolution

Breakthrough UK hope disabled women especially those connected to Salford, Stockport and Trafford (these areas have fewer women councillors) will gain confidence, skills and experiences to engage in democracy. There is an expenses budget for volunteers and participants.

For this project women in politics are invited to share their experiences and expertise in challenging the barriers to political participation with local disabled women, initially at events but also through the provision of opportunities to shadow or be mentored by active women leading within a political environment.
