Draft Charter for Mental Health Services

23 Jan 2014 - 15:41 by john.butler

As part of our work to support engagement of the voluntary sector in the proposed recommissioning of mental health services Macc has set up an advisory group to strengthen the voice of people who use mental health services and mental health self advocacy groups. We began by producing a draft charter for mental health services, which is based on things that people who use mental health services have said in previous consultations. To increase the potential impact of this the group have also translated the demands or wishes into outcomes and considered how these might be monitored in a contract.
We are currently consulting on this with service user activists before putting it out for wider consultation. In the short term we will feed this into the CCG engagement process around the Mental Health Improvement Plan (MHIP). Thereafter we are planning to support development of an independent forum for people who use mental health services. Should the Clinical Commissioning Groups decide to proceed with a full tender process for mental health services, we anticipate that, such a forum could play a key role in supporting and influencing the commissioning and procurement process.
If your organisation is interested in circulating the charter for comment by people who use your services then please contact John Butler at Macc [email protected] Tel 0161 834 9823.
