Independent Choices Greater Manchester vacancies for Female Trustees

15 Jul 2016 - 10:43 by michelle.foster

Independent Choices is a Manchester based charity that has been working for almost forty years with women and their dependents who have been effected by domestic abuse. Independent Choices offer two helplines that serve Greater Manchester: a Women’s Domestic Abuse Helpline and a Community Helpline Language Service which is sensitive to the needs of South Asian Women. Independent Choices take around 5,000 calls per year on their helplines that offer advice, signposting, emotional support and referrals to a network of refuges across the UK.

The Board of trustees is looking to recruit two new members to complement the skills and expertise of the existing Board. Strong candidates will be able to demonstrate knowledge of and expertise in legal/policy fields or media and marketing. Trustees will have an understanding of the needs and rights of women, children and young people affected by domestic violence and abuse.

Independent Choices are keen to recruit Trustees who are committed to the development and maintenance of women’s services that empower and protect women, to raising awareness and reducing the impact of domestic abuse in communities, as well as working in partnership with other agencies to develop sustainable, holistic responses to the needs of women and children experiencing domestic abuse.

Successful candidates will be required to attend six weekly board meetings and an away day each year as well as participate in governance and directing the organisation to meet the vision of IC. Trustees can claim reasonable out-of-pocket and travel expenses but are not otherwise remunerated.

Independent Choices are looking to recruit a representation of women from the local community and would welcome applications from women from black, minority and ethnic communities.
