Launch of council tax precept consultation

6 Jan 2017 - 10:28 by michelle.foster

Following the Government announcement of a further shortfall in police funding, Tony Lloyd, Police and Crime Commissioner has launched a consultation on an increase in the police element of the council tax.

Tony Lloyd is asking local people to contribute an extra £5 (for a Band D property). The modest increase – which is equal to maintaining 70 police officers on the streets – comes after cuts of more than £180m and the loss of more than 2,000 officers since 2010. This is against a backdrop of rising crime and increasing demand.
