Manchester Mind Board Trustee Vacancy for a Treasurer

Manchester Mind, one of the North West’s most forward-thinking and dynamic voluntary sector organisations has an exciting opportunity for a talented individual to take on the role of Treasurer.

With many people in Manchester finding it harder to cope with a wide range of pressures Manchester Mind are finding that more people are experiencing poor mental health. Manchester Mind are now facing increasing demands for their services whilst operating in a challenging funding environment and know that there are even more challenging times ahead.

Manchester Mind provides innovative services providing practical and emotional support to a wide range of people. Alongside the Assertive Outreach project, which supports people with severe and enduring mental health problems, Manchester Mind run an effective advice and advocacy service which helps people tackle some of the basic issues in their lives like housing, debt and leading healthier lifestyles.

Manchester Mind also have a café which provides volunteering opportunities for those who feel ready to get back into a working environment. There’s also Good Mood Food, a catering business which is run as a social enterprise to generate income for the charity as a whole. Manchester Mind also runs a young people’s advice and support project (YASP) based in Levenshulme providing support for 15-25 year olds.

About the role:
• A member of the Board of Trustees which meets 10 times a year whose main role is to oversee the delivery of our strategic and business plans, manage the organisation’s performance and ensure financial sustainability
• The Chair for the Finance Sub-Committee, which currently meets monthly. The committee advises Board on financial matters and oversees the financial systems and procedures
• Working collaboratively and alongside a committed Board, Leadership and Finance Teams to ensure our long term financial sustainability – so that Manchester Mind can make sure that people experiencing mental health issues have the right support today, tomorrow and for as long as they need it.

About you:
• An enthusiasm and commitment to help others and preferably with experience in the charity and social enterprise sector
• An accountancy qualification, recent experience and skills in financial management
• Willingness to learn; a mentor and regular reviews with the Chair will be offered and a handover and induction programme will be developed with you by the retiring Treasurer
• Demonstrable diverse experiences and skills which are transferrable to the role of the Treasurer
• Manchester Mind welcome applications from everyone but to increase the skills mix and diversity of the current Board Manchester Mind would particularly welcome applications from, young people, those from BME communities (who are currently under-represented at Board level) and people with direct experience of mental health issues – either personally, as a carer or in a professional capacity.
