New Disabled Women’s Peer Support Project

26 Apr 2019 - 10:21 by michelle.foster

Breakthrough UK are inviting disabled women who connected over Breakthrough’s Democracy Disability Devolution Events to join a new weekly peer group. It will be a safe space where disabled women can relax and enjoy themselves in a welcoming, accessible and friendly group. Members will lead the group and decide how it is run. Breakthrough staff and volunteers will attend to offer support and provide any training needed on running groups. Breakthrough UK

The group will meet every Tuesday afternoon from 1:30pm to 3pm. The first 4 meetings will be in the Asda Eastlands Community room –the first open afternoon was yesterday. The group may then move to the Abraham Moss Centre in Crumpsall in late May.

Breakthrough UK hope the new women’s group will be a great place to share experiences and support, feel listened to, know your rights and develop skills, self-esteem and self-confidence. It is funded with a small grant from Mind, and aims to promote disabled women’s wellbeing.

You can chat to other women who are also interested in joining the group, find out more about the project from Breakthrough staff, and sign up to join.

To confirm your attendance, contact June on 0161 324 3950 or text 0793 994 2817, or email: [email protected] and you will be given more information and directions to the venue.
