Nominations open for remarkable women

14 Jul 2011 - 10:20 by michelle.foster

There are many remarkable women working in the city to improve women’s lives as well as women who are excelling in their chosen field and it’s time to recognise their contribution to the city.

If you know an individual or an organisation that fits this description then the nominations are open for Manchester City Council's Women's Awards 2011.

This year three more categories have been added to the list so there are nine in total to choose from. Categories include women who have made an outstanding contribution in business, sport, culture, art, science, environment, outstanding young woman and valuing older people.

A special award will be given to an outstanding woman or group of women in honour of Kath Fry, a former councillor in Manchester and tireless political campaigner particularly in her work to improve education and the life chances of young people.

Those short-listed will be invited to the final awards ceremony, which will be held in Manchester Town Hall in October when the winners will be revealed.

For further information and to make a nomination, visit: www.manchester.gov.uk/womensaward, or contact Alex Keelan, on 0161 234 4263, or email: a.keelan@manchester.gov.uk.

Deadline for nominations: Friday 5 August 2011, 17:00
