Shopping apps

Shopping apps
are less personal but in some ways an easier ask, as it’s the retailer that makes the donation, though your groups benefactors and their friends and family will need to be IT savy.

Here are a number of online apps that encourage donations through retail spending

Give4Sure
App enables charities to receive donations when people download it and shop online. The App is personalised free of charge for each charity and there are no costs to you. All you need to do is send an email (which will be bespoke formatted for you) to everyone on your email list encouraging them to download the app. If you have developed a good database of potential donors - this is where it pays off. You do not have to open a charity website to browse and shop. It only needs to be downloaded once. Then people just pay for their shopping as usual, the retailer pays for the donation to your cause. Over 1,400 retailers have pledged donations for online purchases.

Giveasyoulive
Give as you Live is a web-based product from Everyclick that allows shoppers to turn every pound spent online into a free donation for any UK cause. Online stores, offering millions of products, will donate a percentage of each purchase to any cause a shopper selects. It costs the shopper nothing to Give as you Live as the stores donate the money, not the shopper. The shopper can pick from over 220,000 UK causes to donate to and, on average, 2.5% of each purchase can be donated. Shoppers can either use Give as you Live through an online store or they can download Give as you Live and shop directly with their favourite stores.

Complete the online entry form to register your charity. All entries are checked and authenticated via the Charities Commission for England and Wales, Office of the Scottish Charity Register and HMRC charity and good causes list. On completion of this form your charity or good cause will take 24 hours to appear on Give as you Live and other Everyclick Websites. Once your charity details have been authenticated your charity will appear on the Give as you Live and other Everyclick Websites, which will then allow your supporters to select your charity. Each click when searching on Everyclickltd.com and each item bought online with Give as you Live will generate your charity unrestricted income.

Additionally, by entering your details Charities Trust will also set up an online page, which has an online donation facility, which will make all eligible donations tax effective, as Charities Trust will claim the Gift Aid on your behalf. How do you get to be one of the causes?

Easyfundraising
Easyfundraising helps you raise money for your charity, community group, good cause or school by shopping online with your favourite retailers such as Amazon and John Lewis. It works in a similar way to many other loyalty shopping sites, but instead of earning points when you shop, you raise a donation for your cause instead.

ebay for Charity
ebay for Charity enables charities to receive donations from people who buy online and to fundraise through selling products. Any ebay seller who has a current account in good standing can create an ebay for Charity listing. There are two types of sellers:

  • Individual seller: ebay sellers who want to donate between 10% and 100% of their final sale price to a registered charity (1% to 100% for vehicle sales).
  • Charity direct seller: Registered charities can sell their own items on ebay and collect 100% of their final sale price. Charity direct sellers create their ebay for Charity listings with the same selling forms as a community seller.

Ploink
Ploink is a micro-giving website that allows individuals to donate small amounts of change to the charities of their choice.
