Moodswings |
Moodswings is a Queens Award winning, charity set up in 1999 to support people with mental health problems and their friends and families. All services are provided free of charge and much of the work is done by volunteers Each year Moodswings works with around 1200 people, of whom approximately a third are friends and family. Services include a helpline, one to one support, recovery courses, life skills, groups and activities. Although specialising in working with people with mood disorders, the charity supports people with other forms of emotional distress. All their work centres around recovery, which means ‘living the best life you can with, or without, the symptoms of emotional distress’. Their aim is to help people develop a better understanding of their symptoms, to manage them and strive to achieve the things they want in life regardless of their difficulties. |

Cyril Flint Volunteers and Great Places Partnership Project |
For the purpose of this project we will be working in an informal partnership with Great Places Housing Association. The plan is to run a pilot befriending project designed to meet the needs of Great Places tenants who are over 50 years of age and socially isolated. The aim will be to recruit volunteers from amongst Great Places tenants, so that once they are trained and have had their DBS checks they can be matched with their isolated 50+ neighbours. One of the bases for this project will be Great Places Byron’s Extra Care Housing Scheme based in Blackley. This scheme houses 40 people who are 50 + and have housing, health or other needs. Great Places and Cyril Flint will be able to share the learning that occurs during the lifetime of this pilot project. Nephra Good Neighbours - Champions Project |
The NEPHRA Good Neighbour Champions Project will give participants the permission they need to check on their neighbours. We will launch the project with the help of a quarterly magazine specifically designed to reach out to older residents. The magazine will be hand delivered to over 1000 homes and will be available in doctor’s surgeries, local library, swimming baths, local dance centre, post office, bakery, chip shop etc. It will provide NGN Champions the excuse they need to knock on their neighbour’s door; to hand they will have the magazine, an identification badge and a NGN Champions big smile. Full training and support will be given to all NGN Champions as well as weekly drop in sessions so that experiences can be shared. Manchester Mind |
We are Manchester Mind Our purpose is to create a space where mental health comes first. We believe that everyone deserves to be supported in their mental health needs and that we have a part to play in that. We value the commitment of our staff and volunteers who work hard to ensure our services are delivered in a way that enables people to feel heard and involved. We know Manchester well We have been delivering services in the city since 1989 (previously as HARP), initially focusing on people living in Hulme, but over the years we have extended our services to meet the needs of people citywide. In 2011, we became one of over 100 Local Mind Associations, as we affiliated to national Mind. Despite this, we remain an independent charity, governed by our own trustees. We now deliver a wide range of services to support people’s mental health and last year over 6,500 people received support, information and/or training from Manchester Mind. We’re here for the people of Manchester |
