Don't miss the chance to highlight and celebrate all the work you do in Manchester’s voluntary and community sector. Maybe you volunteer your time or you are part of a community group or you may be from a business that gives back to the community. Manchester Voluntary Sector Assembly – Finding and asking for funding and donations
Come along to the next Manchester Voluntary Sector Assembly on 9 May, 1.30pm-4.30pm to find out about the current funding landscape, different sources of income (not just grants), how to ask people for money and some tips on working with corporates. Speakers will include Joe Saxton of nfpSynergy, who publish an excellent range of useful and topical free reports and briefings. The Big Lottery Fund will also give an update on the current changes to their funding programmes, which will take effect from April. Places are limited to one per organisation and this event is for voluntary, community and social enterprise organisations working in Manchester only. Click here to register

Social Eating programme – invitation to bid
Ambition for Ageing is seeking to create partnerships to develop and compare a range of sustainable social eating schemes within a diverse range of communities in Greater Manchester. This new programme seeks to increase the number of opportunities for older people to eat together in Greater Manchester, thereby creating a range of social occasions where people feel they belong, can bond with existing friends and make new connections. Comic Relief – Safe, Secure, Settled fund
This initiative will invest in projects that are using sport to improve the lives of young people without a safe or secure place to live, helping them to gain the skills and resources to lead safe and positive lives. Comic Relief will consider work that supports children and young people aged up to and including 25. Comic Relief will also consider family-based interventions where the majority of beneficiaries are under 25. Applications are welcome for a minimum of £100,000 and a maximum of £500,000, over a period of between two and four years. Deadline: Thursday 14 June 2018, 12:00 Read more

Griffins Society Fellowship Programme for women in the criminal justice system
The 2018 Griffins Society Fellowship Programme is now open to applications. 2018 is the 100th anniversary of women’s suffrage, and the Fellowship is seeking applicants to contribute to practice and policy debates around women with convictions by undertaking their own pioneering research. The Griffins Society Research Fellowship Programme offers a unique opportunity to explore your own interests or concerns about the treatment of women in the criminal justice system. Volunteer for Manchester Day – the city’s big day out
Make sure you have a unique Manchester Day experience by being part of the show. There are hundreds of opportunities to be part of the event, and Manchester Day is looking for enthusiastic people to play a key role in helping to bring the streets of Manchester alive with colour, music and performances. Manchester Day is one of the biggest outdoor events in the UK, with tens of thousands of people filling the streets to celebrate this year’s theme: The Word on The Street. Manchester Day will take place on Sunday 17 June from midday until 6pm. Read more

Manchester’s Night Heroes – Are you a hero?
Manchester’s Night Heroes are four dedicated and trained groups of volunteers based in the city centre, who are committed to ensuring that your night out is as safe and secure as possible. Working in conjunction with the emergency services, volunteers are there to help people who are distressed due to a variety of reasons, be it alcohol or drugs, lost possessions, lost friends and even a flat mobile battery. Domestic Abuse Consultation – deadline 31 May 2018
The Home Office have launched a public consultation ‘Transforming the response to domestic abuse’. This consultation seeks views on a number of specific measures that were set out in the Queen’s speech, as well as views on other steps that the Government can take forward through future domestic abuse legislation. But the Government also wholly recognises that it will take more than new laws to help victims and survivors rebuild their lives and to combat this insidious harm. The consultation accordingly also sets out, and seeks views on, the steps the Government can take to raise awareness, support victims, and ensure perpetrators are stopped. Read more

The Community Reporters website gives a platform to tell the story to a large audience and be part of a Europe wide network of over 1,700 (and growing) Community Reporters.
