Hate Crime Awareness Community Spirit 2020 Grants Programme

lets end hate crime together

THIS GRANTS PROGRAMME IS CLOSED FOR APPLICATIONS

The Hate Crime Awareness Community Spirit 2020 Grants Programme is offering ten awards of £1,000 to build the city of Manchester’s community-spirit in tackling hatred and discrimination. Only projects that will be delivered sometime between July and October 2020 can be funded.

Hate crime is significantly under-reported. Even in difficult times, continued efforts by local groups and organisations are needed to raise awareness of and challenge hate crime in our communities and to help instil confidence in victims by highlighting how and where hate crime incidents can be reported.

In previous grants rounds, a majority of funded projects have been public events. However, the coronavirus COVID-19 has had a huge impact in every community in Manchester and across all areas of our lives, making the delivery of effective Hate Crime Awareness activities more complex.

Yet, self-isolation at home and other necessary restrictions that protect our health services are increasing everybody’s appreciation of social interaction and the value of community spirit. This funding programme wants to recognise and celebrate the diversity in our society and its community spirit.

Bearing in mind the limitations caused by COVID-19, what could you do with a £1,000 Hate Crime Awareness Grant to increase or build on people’s involvement in your community?

Project proposals submitted to this programme must fit with the government’s coronavirus social-distancing measures and include careful consideration of the safety both of those delivering the activity and its intended audience.

Through Manchester City Council, Manchester Community Safety Partnership makes funding available annually to support projects across the city that promote awareness of hate crime and how to report it. Macc administers this grants programme on behalf of the Council.
