Organisation name: North Manchester Wellbeing Centre

Organisation summary: North Manchester Wellbeing Centre was established by North Manchester Health Forum, a group of local volunteers who wanted to do something to improve the health outcomes of local people. It recognised that expensive public health campaigns were having little impact on people in the area and so sought to work with local people to do things differently. The Centre was set up as an attempt to reduce the large numbers of local people who were taking anti-depressant drugs, often as a first response to illnesses such as depression and anxiety and were continuing to take this medication for years with little improvement in their condition.
