Manchester Partnership Community Engagement Strategy 2011-15 and Guide

The Manchester Partnership Community Engagement Task Group was set up in autumn 2009 to develop a new Community Engagement Strategy for 2011-15. The purpose of the strategy is to ensure Manchester’s residents and communities are able to have a greater say in what happens in their city.

The strategy is primarily for Manchester Partnership staff and is also a resource for voluntary and community groups and residents in Manchester.

The strategy includes:
• what we want to achieve
• the benefits of engagement
• commitments to engagement
• definition of engagement and empowerment

Following feedback from the launch of the strategy on 23 March 2011, the task group will develop a 12-month delivery plan to implement the strategy.

The task group has also developed a good practice guide that offers practical advice on how to engage with communities. The guide is for Manchester Partnership staff and is also a resource for voluntary and community groups and residents in Manchester.

The toolkit contains information on:
• benefits of engagement
• how to engage, types of engagement, tools, when to engage and barriers to engagement
• engaging with different communities of identity
