Meet the Policy and Influence Team

Claire Tomkinson
Strategic Lead: Collaboration
My role involves increasing collaboration and new ways of working between voluntary, community and social enterprise sector organisations and colleagues in health and social care. My main areas of work include facilitating Community Explorers in partnership with Manchester Health and Care Commissioning and local organisations, and looking at a systems leadership approach in South Manchester in partnership with community partners and University Hospital South Manchester. I’m passionate about building relationships and making connections across sectors to bring together diverse groups of people capable of working together to make a change. I also have a particular interest in asset based approaches and recognising that amazing things happen in communities every day that are consistently overlooked and undervalued.

Karen Dyson
Policy and Influence Team Manager

  Nigel Rose
Strategic Lead (Commissioning)
My role is about influencing the way that public bodies carry out commissioning – how they involve voluntary sector organisations and their beneficiaries in planning, designing and carrying out services. The underlying principles that guide my influence work are community development, co-production and co-design, social value and strength-based approaches to personal care. My key connections, apart from with voluntary sector organisations, are with public sector commissioners and procurement departments. I have worked in many voluntary sector organisations in both paid and unpaid roles including Manchester MIND, Refugee Action, Greater Manchester Immigration Unit, Chorlton Refurb, and Green Chorlton.
  Helen Walker
Policy & Influence Worker
I provide administrative and communications support to the Policy and Influence Team. This includes organising the Voluntary Sector Assembly events and network meetings, updating the Manchester Community Central website with policy news, and tweeting from the @PolicyVoiceMacc Twitter account. I also work with colleagues on projects such as Systems Leadership, Spirit of Manchester Business and the Mental Health Grants Programme.
  Anna Tate
Policy & Influence Development Worker (maternity leave)
My role involves administering the Hate Crime Awareness funding on behalf of Manchester’s Community Safety Partnership and representing the community and voluntary sector on the Manchester Community Safety Partnership Board. I am keen to work across the sectors to help facilitate dialogue between the VCS and the council on all issues relating to crime and safety. I’m also temporally involved in helping facilitate the Older People’s Network and action group meetings, which is a part of the Ambition of Ageing programme, which enables the voice of older people to be heard on issues and services that impact them.
