Chair - Manchester Climate Change Partnership

22 Nov 2019 - 10:46 by michelle.foster

Manchester Climate Change PartnershipThis is an exciting opportunity to drive forward Manchester’s commitment to become zero carbon and place the city at the forefront of national and international efforts to limit global warming to 1.5oC.

For the last 10 years The City of Manchester has had a stakeholder owned strategy to address climate change and adapt the City to its related impacts.

The Manchester Climate Change Partnership (MCCP) is a stakeholder group established to help advise the City on the actions required to reduce its emissions, mitigate the effects of climate change, and act as a focus for businesses, organisations and individuals wishing to take their own action.

The Partnership consists of businesses, voluntary sector, faith organisations and the public sector who together represent a significant proportion of the City’s emissions or have reach to groups that do.

The Manchester Climate Change Agency (MCCA) is an independent company set up with the support of the City Council, which provides operational and technical support to the Partnership.

The Partnership and Agency will shortly publish the Manchester Zero Carbon Framework 2020-25, to set out the urgent action the city needs to take over the next five years, and are working with “pioneer” organisations in the Partnership to lead the way.

The Partnership is looking for a new Chair to take forward the work of the Partnership at this time of great change. Working with core partners and stakeholders, the Chair will play a key role in scaling up and transforming MCCA – to better support the City in delivering the required emissions reductions – as well as developing robust adaptation and resilience strategies.

The appointment of the new Chair is part of a package of three strands of recruitment activity during 2020: Chair appointment; appointment of a new CEO for MCCA, to lead the development of the organisation, in collaboration with the Chair, and; appointment of interim MCCA staff to enable current activities to be scaled up.

If you have proven skills in governance and organisational transformation, are able to engage with a broad spectrum of individuals and organisations - including public, private and third sector - and are committed to action on the climate change, then the Partnership would like to hear from you.
