The Charity Service is a registered charity (number 1011293) and under its current name has been around since 1990 but its origins date back as far as 1924 when it was the Benevolent Section of Manchester and Salford Council for Social Service.
Over the years their primary functions have evolved but their continuing aim is to help support a vibrant and sustainable Third Sector by providing assistance and expertise to make the most of gifts and donations and to help make financial resources available to charities, voluntary and community organisations and individuals.
The Charity Service currently have four small grant programmes – Manchester and Salford Medical Charitable Fund, Cinderella Charitable Fund, Pennington Charitable Fund and The Charity Service Discretionary Fund.
Grants can be issued to assist with the purchase or supply of activities, amenities or equipment which will improve general welfare or items of a medical nature which are not supplied by the NHS. The Cinderella Fund can be used by groups or individuals to support the cost of a holiday for sick or convalescent children whose family are unable to afford to take them on holiday.
