The Charity Service currently have a board of six trustees, with considerable experience in the third sector some of whom may be retiring in the near future. As well as looking to replace these trustees The Charity Service are seeking to appoint further trustees to expand their expertise and contribute to the strategic direction and guidance of the organisation.

The Charity Service value diversity in their trustees and are open to individuals from a diverse range of professional and social backgrounds. On this occasion The Charity Service are looking for trustees whose skills and experience will enable them to make a valuable contribution in the charity and in particular would welcome applications from individuals with experience of managing grant programmes, a medical/social services background, demonstrable management experience in a business or charity role, a recognised financial or legal qualification, or knowledge of charities operating in Greater Manchester.

The board meets four times a year in Manchester and has overall accountability for the management of the charity, in addition to statutory duties and providing strategic direction and guidance to the charity’s administrator. There is also a grants committee, which reviews applications to the four grant programmes. Taking advantage of technology, The Charity Service are a virtual organisation so their running costs are very low, enabling them to cover their costs each year and to remain sustainable.

The positions are voluntary and unpaid but provide an opportunity for close involvement in a specialist infrastructure charity of long standing.
