Community Rights Grant Programmes

28 Sep 2012 - 10:38 by michelle.foster

Over £10m available to community groups looking to take over local services using the new rights
Community groups can apply for funding to help them use the new Community Right to Challenge in the Localism Act. The Right came into force on 27 June and will empower local community organisations to take over a local service that they can run more effectively.

Pre-Feasibility grants between £5,000 and £10,000 are on offer to help organisations build internal capacity. Organisations that can demonstrate a strong potential to compete for public service delivery contracts can apply for feasibility grants of up to £100,000 to help prepare an Expression of Interest or compete in a procurement process.

If your proposal for grant funding includes purchasing support from a provider to build asset management capability, you will be required to have a potential provider in place before making an application. You can contact organisations on a list of suggested providers or choose your own, further information, visit: www.sibgroup.org.uk/communityrights/programme/providers-assets/

Over £16m available to community groups looking to buy buildings and assets valuable to the local community
Community groups can apply for grants to support them in taking on the ownership of assets to be transferred from public ownership. This includes preparing to implement Community Right to Bid coming into force in the autumn, when organisations will be able to bid to buy publicly or privately-owned land and buildings for community use.

Communities will be able to get support to acquire and manage assets such as village shops, pubs, community centres, heritage buildings, allotments and libraries.

Pre-feasibility grants between £5,000 and £10,000 are on offer to help organisations build the internal capacity needed to take ownership of assets. Organisations that can show evidence of plans to take over land or buildings can apply for grants of between £10,000 and £100,000 to help undertake feasibility studies to take on asset ownership and management.
