Enterprising Communities grants: Try-it and Do it awards

13 Nov 2015 - 10:36 by michelle.foster

Do you have an enterprising idea? You might be able to get some funding to test it out.

If you have an idea for an enterprise that will benefit people in your community or you’ve just started a new social enterprise we may be able to help. GMCVO is looking to support potential social entrepreneurs in Greater Manchester to explore and test their ideas. Through UnLtd, a national Social Enterprise support organisation, GMCVO are offering a package of start-up funding and advice to enable people with enterprising ideas to make a positive social impact in local communities.

Who are the grants suitable for?
GMCVO want to encourage and enable individuals or small groups keen to test an idea or launch an enterprise. GMCVO are asking for applicants to be nominated by someone they know from either the Greater Manchester BME Network or a Community Hub in Greater Manchester (this might be your local community centre).

What can they be used for?
Awards can be used for a range of expenditures relevant to the enterprise or individual setting it up – including equipment, training, events, and marketing. You will need to have used the grant and given evidence on what you spent it on by the end of June 2016 at the latest. In addition to funding, we will help participants to find mentoring support, training and access to peer networks.

Award Levels:
Try-it: up to £500 – to test an idea or to pilot an activity
Do-it: up to £2,000 – for new/recently established and incorporated enterprises

Timetable:
Award date: mid December 2015
You will need to have spent all of the grant and show what you spent it on by the end of June 2016 at the latest.

The GM and MBME Networks are working with GMCVO to encourage and help their members to apply. If you are interested in applying but think you might need some help, the MBME Network will be available for the next 2 Mondays (16 and 23 November) 10am-1pm to help. You can either pop into the office (Mauldeth House, Nell Lane, Chorlton, Manchester, M21 7RL) or contact 0161 860 6842 / 07811 531160

If you can't make these but still wish to speak to someone, you can phone Atiha Chaudry on 0778 051 4143.
