Good Employment Week is an annual week of activities that aims to raise awareness of good employment across the city-region. It is taking place between 19-24 June 2023.

The Greater Manchester Good Employment Charter want to raise awareness on what good work looks like and share information on the employment standards that the people of Greater Manchester deserve.

What is the Greater Manchester Good Employment Charter?
The Good Employment Charter is a voluntary membership and assessment scheme, aiming to raise employment standards across Greater Manchester. Organisations of any size, sector, or geography can sign up to the Charter.

The Greater Manchester Good Employment Charter want to see Greater Manchester as a place where people are paid fairly for their work, treated appropriately and provided with inclusive opportunities. At the same time, The Greater Manchester Good Employment Charter want to see the city-region’s economy thrive, with organisations that are productive and effective at the heart of it.

What is Good Employment?
The Charter has seven characteristics of good employment that are all tied together by a central theme of equality, diversity, and inclusion. Involvement in the Charter means employers are working towards excellence, or have excellence in the following areas:

  • Secure Work
  • Flexible Work
  • Engagement and voice
  • Recruitment
  • People Management
  • Health and Wellbeing
  • Pay

The Good Employment Week quiz
During Good Employment Week, people who work in Greater Manchester are being invited to take part in a quiz to find out how good their job is. In 21 quick questions, people will be provided with feedback on their job, and advice on where it could be improved with resources to support. This will include information on how to constructively raise issues with their employer directly.

This quiz will help to raise greater awareness about what makes a good job, and get people thinking about what they should expect out of good work.
