Greater Manchester Women and Girls’ Equality Panel

14 Jul 2020 - 09:20 by michelle.foster

gmcaGreater Manchester is establishing a Women and Girls’ Equality Panel to accelerate gender equality, enabling women and girls to live their best life in Greater Manchester.

The Panel will work to ensure that all women and girls, across the ten boroughs of Greater Manchester, have equality of opportunity to start well, live well and age well.

It will establish a clear vision for women and girls in Greater Manchester to understand issues and inequalities impacting on their lives and recognising women and girls’ particular experience of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In addition, the Panel will ensure that gender equality is actively considered by GMCA, and the wider Greater Manchester system, in decisions made to help make the city-region a better place to live, work, study and do business, and that a differentiated approach is adopted where appropriate.

The Panel will play a key role in making recommendations to GMCA, partners from across the public, private and voluntary sectors to drive and operationalise change.

It will be jointly chaired by Portfolio Lead for Equalities and Ageing, Cllr Brenda Warrington, and Chief Executive Portfolio Lead for Equalities and Ageing, Pam Smith. Greater Manchester’s Deputy Mayor for Policing, Crime, Criminal Justice and Fire, Bev Hughes will also be a core member.

The Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) are currently accepting applications from all women who want to apply. GMCA are looking for women or organisations who are able to advise on key matters related to policy and activities, engage with their networks and ensure that they represent the views of others working in similar fields in order to make a real difference in accelerating gender equality across Greater Manchester.
