Introducing Blocks: A free resources site

13 Apr 2017 - 10:16 by michelle.foster

The Politics Project's new free resources site designed to support teachers and youth workers to have conversations about political and social issues. The Politics project

The project has been funded by RadEqual and Manchester City Council and designed in collaboration with educators, academics, politicians and activists to ensure the content is useful, non-partisan and engaging. The resources focus on five main topics: Brexit, migration, devolution, identity and rights and come in two formats: Blocks and Top-up Toolkits.

Blocks
Blocks are a series of 20-minute activities designed to be flexible to account for the variety of formats social and political issues are discussed in. The activities are short enough to fit into an assembly or form time or they can be linked together to make full lessons or workshops.

Top-up Toolkits
Top-up Toolkits are the best of what already exists to help you top up your knowledge of particular issues. Each toolkit is made up of ten sources that range from videos and newspaper articles to more in-depth reports. Each source has been given an ‘effort level’, so you can just dip in for a five-minute refresher or dive deeper into a particular issue. Many of the sources are great to share with students, so some of them have been marked as ‘classroom appropriate’. The toolkits have been put together in collaboration with The Democratic Society and give a variety of perspectives on each issue.
