31 Jan 2020 - 11:02 by michelle.foster

Invisible Manchester

Invisible (Manchester) is a social enterprise that trains people who have experienced homelessness to become walking tour guides of the city. Invisible (Manchester) have been offering training and tours in Manchester for the past year and a half, and are now ready to take more people on board. To begin Invisible (Manchester) are hosting an open day to introduce people to their work:

  • When? Friday 21 February 2020
  • What time? 12.30pm - 2pm
  • Where? meet in reception of Federation House, M4 4BF - between Victoria Station and Shudehill Bus Station
  • Food and drink? There will be lunch and hot drinks
  • Travel expenses? With receipts travel expenses can be reimbursed

The session will brief the attendees on Invisible (Manchester) work, learn about the training programme and hear from current tour guides and trainees about their experience.

Please note, this is a big commitment and not everyone will be at a stage where they are ready, but Invisible (Manchester) would like to encourage as many people to come to the session and gauge their interest. Invisible (Manchester) work with every guide individually during the training period and beyond to find the best way to support their needs and interests. The training programme includes public and presentations speaking sessions in Manchester Art Gallery, research at the Central Library Archives, trips to museums around the city, IT skills for research, plenty of practice and more. Training is not paid but once a tour guide completes training and starts touring they receive a flat fee of £20 per tour.
