Local residents are asked to pick up your walking boots and best socks to step on it for Breast Cancer Care

27 May 2015 - 14:35 by michelle.foster

Breast Cancer Care is urging Manchester residents to join the charity and a sea of pink walkers on Saturday 13 June 2015 for the annual Pink Ribbonwalk around the historic market town of Bakewell.

The walk will meander between the Wye and Derwent valleys and cover both the Chatsworth and Haddon estates. This year, there is an option to walk a new shorter five mile route, as well as the 10 mile and 20 mile options. The shorter route will be open to families; children over the age of eight will be able to take part and the age limit for the 10 and 20 mile routes has been lowered to 14, so it’s a day the whole family can enjoy together.

This year, approximately 1,9371 people living in Manchester will receive the devastating news that they have breast cancer, but with your help the charity can continue to offer them vital support.

Lucy Johnston, UK Walks Events Manager for Breast Cancer Care says: “This year we need over 750 participants to join us at the Bakewell Ribbonwalk to help smash our target of over £193,000. Every year nearly 55,000 people are diagnosed with breast cancer in the UK so we really need Manchester residents to sign up to take part in 2015!”

Participants will be asked to raise £100 in sponsorship to help fund Breast Cancer Care’s specialist services which help people live with, through and beyond breast cancer. It costs just £30 to register to take part and £15 for under 18s, and you will also receive free entry to the venue grounds (with a reduced entry fee for friends and family). There is no minimum sponsorship for under 18s.

Every participant will receive an event pack with details, a pink ribbon to write a personal message on, a Pink Ribbonwalk T-shirt, medal, celebratory hot post-walk meal and a certificate.

Breast Cancer Care is the only UK-wide support charity helping the thousands of people who wake up to the harsh reality of breast cancer every day. Their specialist nurses, local services and emotional support network mean there’s always someone to turn to for information and support.
