Macc signs letter to David Cameron

11 Feb 2016 - 18:55 by Mike Wild

Macc and over 130 other voluntary sector organisations from across the country have signed a letter to the Prime Minister protesting at the Government's announcement of an anti-advocacy clause to be added into all voluntary sector grant agreements from central Government.

Macc's Chief Executive Mike Wild is one of a number of Greater Manchester based signatories to the letter including Paul Martin (LGBT Foundation), Kate Macdonald (Young People's Support Foundation), Simone Spray (42nd Street), Alison Page (Salford CVS). From the North West other supportes include Tony Okotie (Liverpool VCS), Pamela Ball (Knowsley CVS) and Warren Escadale (Voluntary Sector North West).

Mike Wild said "Our view is simple: charities are not there just to help individuals in need, they are there to find solutions to social problems. All public bodies should be actively seeking out conversations with voluntary and community groups and charities and working together on ways to make improvements. Not only is it part of a healthy democracy, it's also common sense."

The full text of the letter, printed in the Times on 11th February 2016 and the (still growing) list of signatories is on NCVO's website here:
