Manchester Day 2016: Eureka! - Call for participants

15 Jan 2016 - 10:52 by michelle.foster

Manchester City Council and Walk the Plank are now inviting applications for participants for this year’s Manchester DayEureka! Community groups, volunteers and organisations throughout the city are invited to apply to be part of Manchester Day 2016, which is taking place on 19 June 2016.

With your help on Sunday 19 June 2016, together Manchester’s city centre streets and squares will be transformed into a vibrant party celebrating the city and what it means to be Mancunian.

The theme is Eureka! Archimedes’ classic exclamation whilst sitting in his bathtub, but also reflecting Manchester’s pioneering spirit that’s still at the forefront of modern discovery, moments of sudden inspiration in everyday life and a celebration of the history of Manchester as the first industrial city.

Professional artists will work with you to help turn your ideas into reality.

How to get involved:
• Groups can work together before the day itself to develop creative ideas inspired by the theme to be part of the Manchester Day squares or the Manchester Day parade
• Some groups may already play music, or have costumes or a float that fit with the theme
• New this year: If you don’t belong to a community group or aren’t involved in any other way, why not apply to be part of the ‘WOW Crowd’ – a collective of individuals who want to get involved. Find out more about the WOW Crowd
• You can also volunteer to help out behind the scenes on or before the day

Manchester City Council and Walk the Plank want to encourage as many people as possible across the city to take part. However entry into Manchester Day is subject to a selection process and cannot be guaranteed.
