Manchester Youth Market test trading initiative

19 Jun 2015 - 09:57 by michelle.foster

MakeMCR are working with We Love MCR and MCR Markets, on raising funds for a new project, the Manchester Youth Market test-trading initiative and will be fund raising until 11 September.

We Love Manchester has pledged £29,247.00 to set up a new Manchester Youth Market that will pop up every month in a surprising locations where Mancunians aged 16 - 30 will be able to try out their business ideas and showcase their businesses.

The charity wants to raise another £29,000 to create a range of extra opportunities to try out their ideas trading to the public - an online market place, renting a floor in a retail shop on Oxford Road, hotdesking at incubators like Innospace/Sharp or community enterprise centres and guest trading at local markets.

MakeMCR are partnering with The Prince's Trust, The MCR College, MMU, Avanta and the Business Growth Hub who will provide free / mainstream start up and post start support; help with recruitment; deliver specialist workshops e.g. visual displaying / merchandising / trading on ebay / etc.

Recruitment would start mid-September with young people submitting a video pitch - those that need it most would also be able to apply for a small trading-readiness grant of £250. After a bootcamp in January test trading would start in February and the first pop up Youth Market would be held in May.
