Manchester's first Real Junk Food Project need your support

9 Feb 2015 - 10:09 by michelle.foster

The Real Junk Food Project Manchester are looking to help take over the running of a substantial city centre building, through community asset transfer, to run Manchester’s first Waste Food Café.

The Real Junk Food Project Manchester intercepts food that would otherwise go to waste from supermarkets, restaurants and a number of other sources, and turns it into healthy, nutritious meals for those in need on a pay-as-you-feel donation basis.

The Project’s aim is to reduce food waste, lower the city’s carbon footprint, and tackle food poverty for the most vulnerable in our communities, through a Pay as You Feel Café and a range of projects and initiatives aimed at getting the people of Manchester involved in the food they eat, through specialist cooking courses, awareness raising, volunteering and all things sustainable.

Currently, The Real Junk Food Project Manchester runs pop-up events across the city, supporting emergency provision organisations like Coffee4Craig, and raising awareness about food waste with local communities with groups like Friends of the Earth.

To increase the number of people the Project can support and help Manchester achieve its ambitions as a sustainable city, they are investigating the potential to take on a permanent home through community asset transfer, and they need your support.
