Proposed changes around New Cross

8 May 2015 - 09:57 by michelle.foster

New Cross is at the north-eastern fringe of the city centre bounded by Swan Street to the south, Livesey Street to the north, Rochdale Road and Bromley Street to the west and Oldham Road to the east.

Manchester City Council is asking for your views on their proposals about how the area could be developed and transformed into a successful, distinctive residential and commercial neighbourhood.

The proposals are set out in a draft Neighbourhood Development Framework document, at: www.manchester.gov.uk/northmanchesterregeneration

New Cross is increasingly a focus for new housing and commercial development. It sits between key regeneration priorities including NOMA and the Ancoats and New Islington neighbourhoods which have enjoyed significant public and private investment. To the north are Collyhurst and lower Irk Valley – also enjoying substantial regeneration and investment, bringing new housing that’s helping to grow our city and economy.

With its unique character and heritage and its proximity to high quality public and open spaces, New Cross has the potential to make its own significant contribution to the development of new homes and associated services to accommodate the growing numbers looking to live near their city centre jobs with easy access to key public transport improvements – the Northern Hub and HS2.
