26 Oct 2018 - 10:54 by michelle.foster

Relate is launching a new service in Greater Manchester for people experiencing problems in their relationships, and relationship counselling is now available at new locations in central Manchester, Sale, Stockport, and Wigan. The leading relationship charity experienced a peak in calls last month (a 51% increase on a typical month) from people whose relationships reached crisis point over the summer, and this half-term is encouraging  anyone facing difficulties in their relationships to seek support . relate

If you’re already having problems in your relationship, then the pressure of juggling work, keeping the kids entertained, and spending time with your partner during the school holidays can tip things over the edge. Tempers can get frayed and by the time schools re-open, some relationships are in a pretty bad state.

It’s common to experience problems and bad patches in a relationship, and counselling with Relate can really help. According to the latest data, 91% of Relate’s relationship counselling clients said that their communication was “a bit better” or “much better” after attending counselling, 76% felt happy in their relationship (up from 17% at the start of counselling), and 84% felt able to cope with any difficulties they might face in the future.

Sarah Hall, Chief Executive of Relate Greater Manchester South, said: “Relate’s research has found that nearly 3 million people in the UK are in distressed relationships – that’s 1.4 million families at breaking point. So we’re really pleased to be making more relationship support available in Greater Manchester. Whilst it’s never too late to ask for support, the earlier you can tackle problems in your relationship, the more likely you are to overcome them. Talking to somebody objective such as a counsellor can really help, so don’t hesitate to contact us at Relate.”

Relate’s non-judgmental relationship counselling service support individuals, couples, and friends of all ages, backgrounds and sexual orientations.
