Representing our Greater Manchester communities in a new year quit smoking campaign

25 Oct 2019 - 11:41 by michelle.foster

GMHSCPSmoking causes 16 types of cancer and kills 1 in 2. In Greater Manchester, great strides are being taken to encourage, help and support those who want to quit. Over 27,000 fewer people smoked in the city region in 2018 compared to the previous year. We need to keep on doing everything that we can to harmful effects on the health of Greater Manchester residents caused by smoking. We know that smokers respond positively to seeing and hearing people just like them, who’ve had similar struggles when trying to quit and who have managed to do so successfully.

You may have seen the ‘exsmoker’ campaign which launched on No Smoking Day in March 2019. You can see the TV advert here: https://tinyurl.com/y2bmvgor

A new TV advert is going to be created for a new year campaign and Greater Manchester Health and Social Care Partnership (GMHSCP) would particularly like to feature more people who better represent the diversity of our Greater Manchester communities. GMHSCP would ideally like to find more stories from LGBT and BAME communities.

GMHSCP are looking for people who live in Greater Manchester, have quit smoking within the last 5 years and who can commit to being filmed (for one or two half-days) in the week commencing 11 November.

Anyone who may be interested but who doesn’t want to appear on TV and/or is unable to be filmed week commencing 11 November should still get in touch, as GMHSCP are filming and photographing case studies for social media all of the time.

Those chosen to appear on the TV advert will be reimbursed for expenses incurred. Interested individuals should email: [email protected] by 31 October 2019.
