Talk Cancer bursary - free places available on cancer awareness training

27 Aug 2015 - 09:56 by cheryl.mcalister

Having the confidence to have a short conversation about cancer with the public can make a real difference. Cancer Research UK are now offering those who are best-placed in their community to have such conversations, with the chance to attend one of our Talk Cancer training workshops – for free – through our new bursary scheme.

Talk Cancer workshops are designed to equip and empower healthcare workers and volunteers with the knowledge, skills and confidence to have conversations about cancer with people in their local area. Our training is interactive and discussion based, covering everything from lifestyle and cancer, to helping understand and overcome the misconceptions and barriers many people may have which can delay a visit to the doctors. The workshops are led by Cancer Research UK trainers who have nursing backgrounds and many years of experience talking about cancer face-to-face. More information is available on our website www.cruk.org/talkcancer

We have recently launched a bursary scheme to allow people to attend a Talk Cancer workshop, for free.

Anyone who works or volunteers to improve the health and wellbeing of their community, can apply for the bursary. You just need to complete an application form which can be downloaded on our website (please find a copy attached also, along with our Terms & Conditions): http://www.cancerresearchuk.org/health-professional/prevention-and-aware...

We have a number of workshops coming up which the bursary can be used for. The following dates are currently available:

• September 23rd 2015, 1.30-4.30pm – London, Cancer Research UK Head Office in Angel, Islington.
• February 23rd 2016, 9.15am-4pm – North East England, venue TBC
