Together in Service Fund

7 Mar 2014 - 10:41 by michelle.foster

FaithAction will be administering a pot of £160,000 over 2 years. This is available as 1:1 match-funding for small grants of £2,000 and £5,000 to facilitate new multi-faith social action projects at a local level, where there is often a lack of confidence in undertaking volunteering work in a multi-faith way.

Together in Service is a new programme supported by the Department for Communities and Local Government. Its objectives are:
• to celebrate the practical contribution that faith communities make to society through social action
• to support faith groups in undertaking new multi-faith volunteering projects at local level

Social action can broadly be defined as practical action in the service of others, which is:
• carried out by individuals or groups of people working together
• not mandated and not for profit
• done for the good of others – individuals, communities and/or society
• bringing about social change and/or value

Grants will be given to constituted bodies, not to individuals. Grants are only available in England.

FaithAction wishes to support a wide range of activities aimed at improving the quality of life for local people. Through the grant making, they aim to:
• Target community need that is informed by local research and local consultation
• Focus support to achieve maximum effectiveness
• Enhance community and voluntary activity
• Encourage best practice among community and voluntary groups
• Give help where it is needed most

Grant Eligibility
When reviewing grant applications, FaithAction will consider the following overarching eligibility criteria.
 Organisations must be constituted bodies (such as charities registered with the Charity Commission or a CIO), delivering in England.
 Projects must contribute to the overall Together in Service objectives
 Projects must involve faith-based groups/people, with preference for multi-faith projects
 Projects must engage people from more than one faith community
 Organisations must provide match-funding equivalent to the grant amount requested

Together in Service believes in equality, and projects will not be discriminated against due to issues of age, disability, marital status, gender, sex, race, faith, religion or sexuality.
