Volunteer Peer Support Worker – Love Safely

19 May 2016 - 10:16 by michelle.foster

This is a new Wythenshawe based peer support project for 16-25 year olds funded through Wythenshawe Safe Spots. This is a challenging opportunity for young people wanting to help their peers build more positive, healthy personal relationships. Wythenshawe Safe Spots are looking for 16 young people, aged 16-25 years old to be part of the first team of peer support workers.

Stage 1 ‘Advice & Guide’
Wythenshawe Safe Spots are asking that each volunteer takes part in an initial 4 week training programme covering key topics like problem solving, communicating with others, managing feelings and planning and organising sessions. This will equip you with the skills needed to become a peer support worker.

Stage 2 ‘Love Safely’
Each peer support worker will then have the opportunity to specialise in a specific topic related to developing healthy personal relationship and continue on a further 6 sessions. These sessions will cover sexual health, consent and healthy vs unhealthy relationships and keeping safe. Once you have completed the training you will support staff and other adult volunteers to run information and guidance surgeries and targeted project work around healthy relationships in schools and youth groups across Wythenshawe.

The sessions will start Wednesday 29 June 2016, 5.30pm-7.30pm.
