Policy and Influence Team

Macc is the voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) sector support organisation for the city of Manchester. Our purpose is to encourage, support and develop VCSE organisations and individuals to have a real influence over the places and communities in which they live.

Policy and Influence Team purpose
- To ensure that VCSE organisations, together with the people and communities of Manchester, have opportunities to influence how decisions are made that will affect them
- To be a voice for the VCSE sector in Manchester
- To ensure that VCSE organisations have the policy information required to enable them to operate to the best of their ability and are connected to each other so they can share knowledge, experience and create opportunities to work together

How we do this
- Supporting a strong collective voice for the VCSE through activities such as bringing people together, responding to consultations and supporting campaigns
- Supporting and increasing representation of the VCSE sector in working with strategic partners
- Inform and influence policy on a local, regional and national basis
- Campaigning and raising the profile of the VCSE sector and its work
- Keeping the VCSE sector informed of policy changes and their impact
- Working with commissioners to make sure that processes are inclusive for VCSE organisations and to look at new ways of delivering services
- Supporting the development of good practice

These are just some of the areas of work we are involved in…
- Organising the Manchester Voluntary Sector Assembly, a key city-wide network and forum for the VCSE sector to discuss and communicate issues, concerns and solutions to key bodies such as the city council and NHS
- Promoting the VCSE sector’s important role in Greater Manchester devolution as a ‘strategic and delivery partner’ by being an active member of the Greater Manchester Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise Leadership Group
- Sharing knowledge and influencing policy in areas such as social value, equalities, and health and wellbeing, and with key Manchester strategies
- Representing the VCSE sector on strategic bodies such as the Health and Wellbeing Board, the Children’s Board and the Work and Skills Partnership
- Write regular blogs on a range of subjects of interest to the VCSE sector
- Co-chairing the health Community Explorers meetings
- Supporting campaigns such as the Greater Manchester Poverty Action Group and the GM Living Wage Campaign
