Pandemic Pressures summarises Ambition for Ageing’s research into how Greater Manchester equalities organisations have responded to the needs of older people during the Covid-19 crisis. Sonder Radio is delivering a 3 week long online project 'Let's Get Musical' - for 50+ residents of Manchester who are not currently in employment, in partnership with Manchester Adult Education Service.
Ambition for Ageing is seeking community groups and organisations to deliver projects of up to £2,000 in specific neighbourhoods across Greater Manchester to help create social connections and build age-friendly places for people aged 50 and over.
After a temporary break, Manchester Cares Phone-A-Friend programme is now back open for referrals. Manchester Cares would love to meet anyone over 65 who you work with who you think may benefit from a little extra company.
Phone A Friend is for those living in the City of Manchester who might be isolated, not able to get out as much anymore and benefit from a meeting a new friend over the phone.
Ryder Brow Community Allotment Society is offering a gentle gardening volunteering workshop for the over 50's. Beneficiaries will be guided in designing and creating a sensory garden, no previous experience is required. It is hoped that the attendees will be motivated for weekly visits to maintain the garden.
Ambition for Ageing are excited to share their newest briefing on what works in tackling social isolation of older people in small, tight-knit marginalised communities. The new briefing shares transferable learning from their Community Navigator project delivered by British Red Cross that worked with small, tight-knit ethnic minority communities – Bangladeshi communities – in Greater Manchester.
A new information campaign to support older people to keep well this winter has launched. The Keeping Well this Winter film and talking tips guide have been developed by the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) and partners as training resources for frontline staff and volunteers who have direct contact with older residents. The campaign resources include:
Ambition for Ageing have announced four short briefing sessions that will take place this December on Keeping Marginalised Older People Safe and Well this Winter.
The More Club is for anyone over the age of 50 living in Harpurhey, Charlestown or Higher Blackley who wants to get out more, do more and meet more people.
The More Club is organising activities for the future in your neighbourhood such as indoor bowling, craft sessions, gardening workshops, book clubs, coffee mornings and more.
