Sometimes customers find it difficult to search and apply for jobs. They may not understand how to use a computer and that can often be a barrier to finding work. They may need support in searching and locating suitable jobs and then further support to create a covering letter and CV, which results in securing work. Volunteers support is very important at the Assisted Job Search session; we have many people utilising this facility. People are either applying for roles too far away, not completing an application form appropriately or have not written a suitable covering letter or CV; which results in poor response rates. The Assisted Job Search is a drop in session for tenants to learn how to navigate the computer and internet, to receive guidance on how to apply for specific & quality jobs and given support to reach their target. Timings – 12:30pm – 3:30pm
Your role as a volunteer would be to:
- Work with those tenants that attend the session on a 1:2:1 basis
- Support with navigating the computer and internet
- Address any technical or IT problems that arise relating to the internet and word
- Offer tips on their CV
- Offer tips on how to apply for jobs
- Proof read applications/covering letters
- Help tenants to understand what jobs to apply for within their current abilities Getting involved in this project is great, if your interests are:
- to support other people, support their personal progression and helping them overcoming barriers resulting in paid employment
- raise tenant’s confidence.
- to experience the social housing sector
- get support the local economic agenda
- To prevent tenant from getting further into debt/poverty

As part of role, volunteers will be asked to complete an IAG level 2 qualifications. This provides you with an industry standard qualification, which is recognised in this field of work. It’s also a very flexible qualification, which works with you and is often based on observations, therefore not a lot of additional work to do. This course is FREE of charge to volunteers
Volunteers need to show the following qualities:
• Non judgemental attitude
• Not to impose your own opinions on others
• Empathy
• Good people skills
• Good communication skills
• Savvy on the internet/Microsoft work
• Understand what employers are looking for in a good CV and application form
• Good level of English/literacy
