Dear Jack,

Welcome to our latest #iwill update!

In our last newsletter we spoke of renewed support for youth social action and the #iwill campaign from the Minister for Civil Society; we were very pleased to hear from Rob Wilson MP building on this support in person at our Youth Social Action Matters event at the House of Commons when the Minister announced a new £1million pot of funding for youth social action.

The Youth Social Action Matters event also saw research presented by Demos, on behalf on Generation Change, and from Youth United, both of which addressed increasing participation in social action from young people, and meeting the 2020 goal of the #iwill campaign. (See below for more)

This assembly of youth social action practitioners and likeminded organisations successfully demonstrating the values of working together, echoed another recent event we held, this time alongside CIPD. Releasing a report into the merits of businesses embedding social action into recruitment, our recent #iwillRecruit event saw a panel consisting of various businesses and young people all supporting the value of social action in developing young people for work and life.

This message of collaboration and cooperation is one we at Step Up To Serve are keen to reiterate as the #iwill campaign will be successful only through our partners from across society, and across sectors, coming together to work towards our shared goal.

So, as ever, many thanks all for your continued support!

Charlotte Hill, CEO, Step Up To Serve.

It's good for learning, society & business...

CEO of the Aldridge Foundation, Honor Wilson-Fletcher spoke at our recent #iwillRecruit event. Here she blogs about the importance of developing young people through social action, and the myriad of benefits it brings.

Fresh funding announced for youth social action

The Minister for Civil Society, Rob Wilson MP, has confirmed new funding as part of the government’s continued drive to enable more young people to be active in their communities. The commitment of £1m from the Cabinet Office will be used to create social action opportunities for young people across the country.

Evolving Education

For some, organising social action projects is relatively easy.  However, often there are barriers and challenges to overcome, especially when it comes to inclusion and participation for all, so says JLGB's Gia Nathan.

Employee volunteering and the #iwill campaign

New team member Kate Van der Plank recently joined the panel for an All Parliamentary Group on employee volunteering, discussing the need to engage businesses with charities, as well as embed social action into recruitment.
