The network has been rejuvenated to better serve the sector, and we would love it if you could join us and your peers in this movement. GMYN believe that the new network will change Greater Manchester by ensuring a successful and unified sector. This will be achieved by providing more support and much more useful opportunities.

The new network membership package now includes access to free and reduced cost training packages; including measuring impact & micro-volunteering, networking opportunities, discounts in areas such as room hire and centre hire, resources such as session plans and example polices, access to regional and national opportunities, promotional opportunities and a free online database management system via Runaclub.

Part of this package includes a new newsletter - which has been redesigned in a new easy to read format. The revised newsletter will  have better content, access to more resources and will allow you to quickly find the information and opportunities that will further enhance the great work you do.

Department Work Pensions looking for content for their new hub

The Department Work Pensions is launching a hub for all things work experience for young people. As part of this #WECan campaign, they’re looking for content including blog posts, case studies, videos, from and for young people to show them the importance of work experience and employability skills.

This is a great way to get attention for the great work that you do as well as supporting young people in a very important but often confusing time.

Here’s some example of the topics they’re looking for…
  • Work experience placements –  how to research then going out and get one
  • Top ten tips to prepare for work experience (e.g. learn the bus routes, research the company, practice early morning alarm wake up calls…)
  • Making the most of your work experience
  • Horror stories – 5 things to avoid when doing work experience
  • How volunteering can get you into work
  • what skills can you gain from volunteering
If you have anything you think might be relevant email it to Catherine at UK Youth catherine.hellewell@ukyouth.org by 31st July.

GM mental health transformation event

Tuesday 4th August
11am to 4.30pm.
Cadishead Lounge - AJ Bell Stadium, Stadium Way, Eccles, Manchester M30 7WH.

A number of colleagues have indicated a wish to invite non-statutory partners from local CVS, or other third sector partners as well as service user and carer governors which is a welcome suggestion. Obviously we can leave that to local organisations to follow up. We have capacity for approximately 150 and will allocate places on a first come first served basis.
If colleagues could confirm attendance to stephaniekenny@nhs.net we will look to ensure all localities are well represented.

GMYN Networking Event in Rochdale is a Success!

GMYN held a ‘Making a Difference’ Event in Rochdale to showcase projects and work done with young people on Thursday 9th July at St. Andrew’s Church, Rochdale. The event was well attended by different services and organisations around Rochdale who wanted to find out more about GMYN’s work. Attendees were able to network, look around the stalls and enjoy a buffet lunch.

Speaking at the event about the Health Action Champions project, Phil Burton, Communications and Engagement Lead at HMR CCG said: “Young people can have unique insights and can contribute to and influence the development and commissioning of services. The work we have done so far is a good beginning but we need to build on this by involving more young people in the work we do.”

GMYN’s network was also re-launched at the event, with many of the attendees interested to find out more about it and how they can join.

Thanks to everyone who came along, we hope you found the event useful and please be in touch if you would like to work together.
