Description of opportunity:

 

Collect & Go is a North Manchester innovative foodbank project in Moston to support struggling families and individuals, whose circumstances has brought about Hardship, Unemployment, Benefit Sanctions, Debt, Low-income and Poverty. An assessment is carried out to establish the situation in order to provide the support needed. Collect & Go is a Packed food parcel that consist of basic necessities tailored to individual/family need.

Our food bank is every Thursday from 1pm to 3pm at our Harpurhey office. we also offer emergency food service and home delivery depending on circumstances at manager's discretion. Referrals are welcomed from Organisations, Agencies and Surgeries.

Volunteers will be asked to assist with:

  • Registering guests and verifying details if they are a returning guest
  • Occasional home delivery might be required at Manager’s discretion
  • Collecting food and fruits from depot to center for re-packaging
  • Packing tailor-made food parcels for families and individuals in need.
  • Managing our Stock Room and maintaining sufficient food supplies;
  • Providing a listening ear and emotional support to vulnerable people;
  • Sign-posting guests to other agencies for specialist help;
  • Assisting with set-up and closing the service.

 

This post will require an Enhanced DBS (formerly CRB) Check. We are able to provide reimbursement of travel expenses on submission of an Expenses Form.

Skills / Qualifications:

. We are looking for organised and efficient individuals, who are service-orientated and are able to make our guests feel special. We support a wide-range of people from different backgrounds, often with individuals / families fleeing domestic violence or abuse, destitute, dysfunctional families, respect for people with cultural beliefs and ethnically excluded families. You will therefore need to be non-judgemental and compassionate, as well as willing to provide a listening ear to guests who are distressed or in need of additional support.
