Description of opportunity:

 

  • To work directly with young disabled people to support them during sessions.
  • To work alongside Youth Work Lead/ Youth Worker and volunteers in promoting good practice and dealing with any issues arising as required.
  • To ensure the safety and wellbeing of the young people during sessions.
  • To recognise and meet the young person’s social, emotional and communication needs, developing opportunities for participation in group work.
  • Encourage and support young disabled people to be empowered to make decisions about activities.
  • To feedback after each session and to help maintain records.
  • To attend SAVY induction and on-going in-service training programmes as required.
  • To comply with all SAVY policies and procedures including child protection confidentiality and partnership.

A DBS check will be required and safeguarding training will be offered.

  • To consult and involve the young person in all decisions affecting him/her using whatever means are appropriate and possible.
  • To empower the young person to be included in activities promoting inclusion and choice.
  • To develop strong supportive relationships with the young person and their family.
  • To undertake any other duties at the request of the Youth Work Lead as far as they are compatible with the aims and level of responsibility of the post.

The majority of this work will be at group sessions.

Whilst most work is routine and predictable, working with young disabled people and their families can be stressful and there is potential for disclosures to be made and for appropriate actions to be taken.

No previous experience necessary
