Outstanding volunteer efforts recognised by Manchester housing association

Award-winning Manchester volunteers using their own experience to help others with mental health, substance misuse and offending issues turn their lives around have scooped awards for their efforts.

Simon O’Brien and Catherine Hay have both been recognised at Riverside’s Volunteering Awards for the impact they have made on their communities.

Triangle Trust 1949 Fund grants for organisations working with unpaid carers

The Triangle Trust 1949 Fund has grants available for charities, not-for-profit social enterprises and community interest companies in the UK that are working to support unpaid carers.

Grants are available for up to £80,000 over three years. The emphasis of the Development Grant is to support the development of a solid foundation for the future.

The grant could, for example, be used to enable an organisation to make a step change such as diversifying its income streams or setting up a social enterprise to help it become more sustainable in the long term.

Invitation to Tender for Fourteen: Inclusive Youth Project

Fourteen is a £3.5m national programme funded by Spirit of 2012, a charity set up by the Big Lottery Fund to connect events to communities across the country; supporting opportunities in sport, physical activity, culture and the arts, volunteering and social action. Forever Manchester is the local partner responsible for managing the money and Harpurhey and Moston is the beneficiary area for the funding.

Prostate Cancer Support Group for African and Caribbean men

'Check It Out' is a new prostate cancer support group for African and Caribbean men that has been set up by the Urology Nurses at Manchester Royal Infirmary. On average 1 in 4 Black men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer at some point in their lives as opposed to 1 in 8 White men (Prostate Cancer UK).

The group will be meeting next on Tuesday 26 April and Tuesday 26 July 2016, 3pm-5pm.

Roots HR have released guidance about Easter falling early this year which may affect those whose leave years are April – March.

Root HR’s guidance says:
“You may have noticed that Easter falls early this year - the 4 day break from Good Friday to Easter Monday is from 25 to 28 March. Those of you whose annual leave years run from April – March will find therefore that that you have 10 bank/public holidays in the 2015/16 year and only 6 in the 2016/17 year.
