Description of opportunity:

Would you like to gain confidence in communicating and interaction with children of different ages whilst making their experience in hospital better?

Radio Lollipop is an children's charity based at children's hospitals around the globe, including 10 UK stations. At Manchester, we are based in the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital. Our mission is to help children in hospital feel good, motivated to get better, important and involved. We register our success by the number of smiles we receive, we even have a stick which can measure the length of a smile!

At Manchester, we have trollies full of serious fun delivered to children on the wards by our enthusiastic volunteers. Radio Lollipop Manchester also has a fully equipped radio studio from which we broadcast live shows to the children's bedsides. We host weekly competitions and get the children involved as much as we can!

We have our fully equipped radio studio full of fun and activities for the children to partake in. We run live shows were volunteers broadcast live to the children's bedsides. We also have children themselves being DJ's on the Radio and involve them with live activities and competitions!

This opportunity will not only help you interact with children of all ages but to be adaptable in different situations. We uplift children’s spirits and focus all our efforts on the children. Our core values as a charity as to be patient focused, showing empathy and compassion to young people and families and delivering serious fun whilst maintain integrity and professionalism. 

No particular skills are required for this role. You must be willing to interact and partake in activities with young people. Visiting children on the wards is a mandatory rationale of our role and being a radio presenter is optional and will be available to volunteers after 3 months of ward volunteering. We expect volunteer to commit to a minimum of 2 hours a week for every 10 in 13 weeks, this is ensure we uphold the high standards set by our current volunteers and to assure continuity to the children in hospital.

Session times run from 18:00 - 20:00 on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings and 13:00 - 15:00 on Saturday,

Please note this role is subjected to a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
