Description of opportunity:

Europia is a registered charity and community development organisation. They are committed to supporting and empowering European nationals who have come to live and work in Greater Manchester.

Through their practical community and well-being projects, training sessions, advice clinics and legal surgeries, they aim to make people feel at home, connect them with their local communities, and give them the knowledge and skills they need to make their hopes and dreams a reality.

They are looking to create a bank of individuals who can speak European languages who are happy to be called upon to support them with tasks and roles that require language skills such as translation of documents/social media posts and engaging with Europia members in their first language. They may also put call outs for volunteers with specialist skills in addition to language skills, such as trainee/student counsellors who can speak European languages.

By registering your interest, you are agreeing to be added to Europia’s Language Bank. They will then send requests for help directly to this bank of contacts as and when they are looking for specific language support. Roles/tasks will be assigned on a case-by-case basis depending on requirements and response to their request for support.

  • Written instruction on the task/role they need support with.
  • A named contact who can answer questions about the role/task.
  • Access to information and resources to complete task/role.
  • Clear safeguarding guidance and a named Europia contact to whom you can report concerns (if applicable).
  • Suitable induction/training for task/role (where applicable).

  • Be fluent and willing to communicate in a European language in addition to English – particularly desirable are: Polish, Lithuanian, Romanian, Slovak, Czech, Estonian, Latvian, Hungarian.
  • Be able to use technology such as Google drive and social media platforms (not for all roles but many).
