Comic Relief Programme - Refugee and Asylum Seeking Women

Financial assistance is available for charities, social enterprises and community groups in the United Kingdom to undertake projects which support refugee and asylum seeking women who have experienced rape, torture or other forms of abuse.

This Comic Relief programme aims to fund work with the most vulnerable refugee and asylum-seeking women who have experienced rape, torture or other forms of violence in their home countries.

There are two strands to the programme:

Big Lottery Fund Opens Increased Capital Grant Strand of Reaching Communities

The Big Lottery Fund (BIG) has opened a new strand of the Reaching Communities Programme for England, which will invest an additional £75 million in rural and urban community-use buildings.

Voluntary and community organisations and town and parish councils may submit outline proposals for capital grants of between £100,000 and £500,000 towards projects with a total value of no more than £750,000.

Manchester Day Parade 2011

Walk the Plank have been commissioned by Manchester City Council to produce Manchester Day Parade 2011 ‘A Voyage of Discovery’.

Manchester Day Parade 2011 will be held on Sunday 19 June 2011 in Manchester’s city centre.

Manchester Day is the city's biggest summer event. It is a day for both residents and visitors to come together and celebrate Manchester's unique creativity and diversity.

Big Lottery Fund Launches the Jubilee People's Millions Competition

The Big Lottery Fund has launched a re-branded version of the People’s Millions Competition for 2011. The Jubilee People's Millions will give communities throughout the UK the opportunity to win local public support and share in £3.6 million of Lottery funding, marking the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in 2012.

Launch of the £100 Million Transition Fund

The Big Lottery Fund (BIG) has opened the new £100 million Transition Fund, which aims to help small and medium-sized charities in England weather the public spending cuts. Grants will be distributed via BIG's non-lottery funding arm, the Big Fund on behalf of the Office for Civil Society (OCS), Cabinet Office.

The Transition Fund will help civil society organisations that deliver high quality public services adapt to a different funding environment, during a period when they are at risk from reductions in taxpayer funded income.

Manchester residents urged to have their say on council budget

Manchester City Council has launched a resident consultation on its 2011/12 budget. The consultation follows the recent Comprehensive Spending Review (CSR) in which the government announced that local authorities will need to cut spending by more than a quarter over the next four years.

Manchester City Council have said they “will have a clearer year-by-year picture of our funding in December when we receive more details from the Government.”
