2 Dec 2016 - 08:53 by michelle.foster

4 Steps CIC is a social enterprise based in the iconic 1950s Burnage Community Centre. They run the 4 Steps Enterprise and Learning Centre, a new initiative that combines helping local people gain new skills with supporting local businesses and enterprises.

The organisation has offered information and guidance sessions since June 2016 and to date have helped 15 people gain new skills, look for jobs or write a business plan. In the past three months, two individuals have successfully gained employment and one person is planning to run her own business from the centre.

Ravinder, who regularly attends the sessions said that the service was, very easy to access and was helping her to improve her digital skills. She said ‘I have learned a lot. 4 Steps is a good organisation where I have received fantastic help’.

4 Steps has three exciting new projects starting in 2017 involving arts and poetry, career options for parents with young children, communication and confidence, fitness and nutrition, budgeting, employment support and running community projects.

The careers project will be supported by the Parent and Toddler Group at Burnage Community Centre and volunteers will be recruited to care for children to give parents space to think about what they want to do once their children go to school.

All these projects will take place in Burnage Community Centre, 347 Burnage Lane, M19 1EW and are supported by Burnage Community Association, Burnage Good Neighbours and other members of the Burnage Village Forum. This is a new initiative for Burnage where local community groups and St Margaret’s Church come together to bring funding and new projects into the area. The main aims and objectives of Burnage Village Forum are to unite local people, encouraging them to shop locally and help strengthen the economy and enliven community spirit.
